National Suicide Prevention Week
September 9-15, 2018
One in four survivors of domestic violence will attempt suicide. With nearly 125 suicides that occur each day, it is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the United States.
It's time the dialogue on suicide became more transparent and without stigma. As a nation, we are already moving in the direction of inclusive and compassionate conversation. Organizations, celebrities, educational and non-profit institutions have been increasingly making awareness and prevention education a priority. However, there is room for improvement and we all can help in the effort.
Shine the Light Foundation participated in National Suicide Prevention Week through a series of public engagement programs and social media outreach initiatives, engaging thousands of individuals throughout the country. See below for a summary of our week of sharing positive messages, sharing love and kindness, and shining the light.
9/9 - 9/15 Share Your Message. Share Your Support.
Throughout the week so many of you showed your support for suicide awareness and suicide prevention by posting a photo holding one or more of our positive-message signs, and connecting with us on social media.
