Wear Yellow for Suicide Prevention + Awareness

9/11 Wear Yellow for Suicide Awareness

Yellow is the official color for suicide awareness. Consider donning this hopeful color and sharing a photo of yourself on social media - be sure to tag us!

This date is also a day of mourning for our nation. Consider also wearing the color yellow in remembrance of those brave lives lost on (and after) September 11, 2001.

One in four survivors of domestic violence will attempt suicide. With nearly 125 suicides that occur each day, it is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the United States.

It's time the dialogue on suicide became more transparent and without stigma. As a nation, we are already moving in the direction of inclusive and compassionate conversation. Organizations, celebrities, educational and non-profit institutions have been increasingly making awareness and prevention education a priority. However, there is room for improvement; and you can help!

National Suicide Prevention Week is September 9 through September 15. Shine the Light Foundation will be participating through a series of public engagement programs and social media outreach initiatives. Please consider joining our efforts by participating in one or more of the events this week.

Share your experiences with us! Feel free to drop us a line using the contact form, or engage with us on social media.

Programs + Outreach

Educational and public programs, special events, and community outreach initiatives are all part of Shine the Light Foundation's mission to broaden awareness for and strengthen the dialogue about domestic violence.
